The Sheath Dress Workshop @ Ray Stitch - Friday 14 July

During this Friday daytime class at the gorgeous new Ray Stitch sewing studio you will cut and make this simple fitted ‘Sheath Dress’, perfect for a summer wardrobe! The workshop will be taught by designer of The Avid Seamstress sewing patterns, Lisa Falconer.

The Sheath Dress is a gorgeously draped garment with a flattering round neckline. There is an elasticated waist which makes this dress extremely comfortable and easy to wear and an invisible zip at the back to help you build upon your skills and master a new technique. You will have many options to add a personal touch and make this style unique to you, make this dress with short or mid length sleeves, with inner pockets or without, contrast colour feature zip or concealed

Level: This class is suitable for anyone who has a good grasp on basic sewing projects (cushions, tote bags, pencil cases etc.) This dress is an ideal starting block to begin your dressmaking journey. If this will be your first made garment we recommend that you choose a plain, easy-to-sew fabric.

You will cover the following techniques in class:

  • Sizing & body measurements
  • Reading and understanding commercial dressmaking patterns and their notations
  • How to transfer pattern information to fabric
  • Insert an invisible zip
  • Garment construction techniques and tips
  • Finishing seams
  •

Tools, equipment and sundry notions are provided and your own copy of the pattern and lunch is included, however you are required to bring your own fabric.
