Say hello to your favourite summer garment - The Tunic. Perfect for a confident beginner, this easy sewing pattern offers you multiple looks in just one make.
An optional buttonhole holds a waist tie for a cinched dress. When left untied with no buttonhole, The Tunic is a floaty and chic beach cover-up – go bold with your print choices for a touch of nautical flair. Choose from two lengths to create inspiring options, perfect for balmy evenings whether you’re at home or going out.
The Tunic sewing pattern features an elegant V-neck with a facing for a polished finish and optional waist tie.
Pattern sizes - UK 6 - UK 26
Skill level - Beginner (version with no tie) / Confident Beginner (version with tie as there is a buttonhole)
Suggested Fabrics
Light drapy fabrics such as viscose are perfect for The Tunic.
The Tunic can also be made in Cotton, Cotton Lawn, Linen, Poplin and any soft non-stretch woven fabric.
When worn, you will see the wrong side of the fabric at the side seams so pick a fabric you don't mind a flash of the wrong side being seen.
Supplies Needed
- Fabric
- Thread
- Light-weight Iron On Interfacing - 0.50cm (the interfacing must be soft and light-weight). If the fabric is dark use a grey or black interfacing.
- Fabric marker - ideally a fabric marker that can be used on the right side of the fabric and will not permanently mark the fabric.
Tie Version
- Ensure that your sewing machine can do buttonholes.
- You'll need a tool to turn the tie to the right side; either a hand sewing needle that has an large eye and is approx 5cm long or a safety pin or a tie turning tool.
- Buttonhole cutter or unpicker to cut the buttonhole.
- Not essential but a wonderful addition to creating buttonholes: Fray Check - a liquid that you apply to the fabric that helps to stop the buttonhole fraying.

What Clients Are Saying
Ruth“Loved this kit, gorgeous fabric, interesting pattern and clear instructions”
Claire Cooper"The Blouse was a great project, with very detailed instructions, helpful photos, and useful sewing techniques. I have certainly learnt from this make, and the blouse turned out perfectly. I was so thrilled with the pattern that I made another, straight after completing the first! The option for 2 patterns in the pack was great, as my daughter has requested a blouse, and I really dislike tracing patterns! I added to the seam allowances so I could sew French Seams at the shoulders and sides, and reduced the seam allowance on the collar so that it was more of a feature, just my preference for the sew.
