Learn to Sew: Tote & Yoga Bag Workshop (Multiple Dates)

Perfect for absolute beginners or anyone looking to refresh their sewing skills.

Spend a relaxed day in The Avid Seamstress Studio learning the fundamentals of sewing whilst making a stylish tote bag you'll use again and again.

Whether you've never touched a sewing machine before or it's been years since you last threaded one, this workshop is designed to help you build confidence in a friendly, supportive environment.

Choose to make a classic everyday tote bag or add a clever front panel designed to carry a yoga or exercise mat, perfect for trips to the studio, beach or gym.

With a maximum of just six students, you'll receive plenty of individual guidance throughout the day, allowing you to learn at your own pace.

During the workshop, you'll learn

• How to thread and confidently use a sewing machine
• Understanding sewing machine settings and stitches
• How to accurately cut your fabric
• Pinning and preparing your project
• Sewing straight seams with confidence
• Pressing and finishing techniques
• Tips for achieving neat, long-lasting results

By the end of the day, you'll head home with a beautiful handmade tote bag and the confidence to start your next sewing project.

Your Project

You'll have the choice of making:

Classic Tote Bag

A versatile everyday tote that's ideal for shopping, work, sewing projects or days out.

Yoga Tote

Upgrade your tote with a full-length front panel, designed to hold a yoga or exercise mat securely whilst keeping the inside of your bag free for everything else.

What's Included

• Tuition in our beautiful Dorset studio
• Use of our Janome sewing machines
• Use of our Janome MyLock overlockers where appropriate
• Sewing kit to use during the workshop
• Tea, coffee and homemade treats
• Small class size (maximum six students)

Sew with Janome

We're delighted to partner with Janome, one of the world's leading sewing machine manufacturers, for our studio workshops.

Our studio is fully equipped with Janome 230DC sewing machines and Janome MyLock 454D overlockers, allowing every maker to learn and sew on high-quality machines throughout the workshop.

Whether you're completely new to sewing or looking to build your confidence, using the same machines means demonstrations are easy to follow and you'll spend more time sewing and less time troubleshooting.

There's no need to bring your own sewing machine unless you would prefer to. Simply arrive ready to create - we'll provide everything you need.

Our workshops are designed to be relaxed, welcoming and supportive.

Many people arrive on their own and worry they'll be the least experienced in the room -but that couldn't be further from the truth. Every workshop brings together a mix of abilities, and that's part of what makes them so special. You'll be encouraged to sew at your own pace, ask questions, share ideas and celebrate each other's progress.

If you're bringing your own sewing machine, please ensure it is clean, well-maintained and safe to use.
